Queer as Folk – The Complete Second Season (Showtime) [VHS]

Queer as Folk – The Complete Second Season (Showtime) [VHS] Review

They’re still out and proud, and in their second season the boys (and girls) of Queer as Folk continued to break ground as the most gay-friendly show on television (sorry, Will and Grace). Some plot lines were a little over the top, others truly heartfelt, but they were never less than entertaining, even during their All My Children moments. Season two opened in the aftermath of the gay-bashing of Justin (Randy Harrison), the young artist who wondered if he’d ever be able to paint or draw again, and went on to face a variety of issues and plotlines as diverse as its characters. Some were timely (Michael negotiating a relationship with new HIV-positive boyfriend Ben), some romantic (lesbians Lindsay and Melanie tying the knot), some new to the show (Emmett embarks on a relationship with a–gasp!–older gentleman), and some, well, far-fetched (how many of you had to wrestle, like Ted did, with starting your own pornographic web site?).

While the writing tended to flail about a bit, thankfully coalescing by the season’s end, the show continued to be anchored by stellar actors, especially Peter Paige’s Emmett, who grew the most during the second season; Michelle Clunie’s Melanie, the alternately wry and sweet lesbian who became the show’s secret weapon; and, as always, Gale Harold’s Brian, the lothario with a heart of tarnished gold. Frustrating, fascinating, exasperating one moment and charming the next, Brian perfectly summed up the guilty pleasures of Queer as Folk, where humanity peeks out every now and then from behind the curtain of fabulous comedy and drama. –Mark Englehart

Showtime presents "Queer as Folk Season 2" with 20 brand-new episodes filmed in full size. The drama and impeccable writing and acting more and more for one season. The show has continued to take shape, as we watch the effects bashing incident. It is also the year in which to find the number of characters, a new job as Ted opens a porn site, Michael buys a comic book shop and found the man of her dreams, and Emmett was a porn star. Melanie and Lindsay plan a commitment ceremonyAwareness, while Gus, the big story this year is antagonism against Debbie's son Michael with HIV get invloved
positive people. Brian is always at the top of the story of how he was invloved with someone from the church by his mother.
Beautifully shot and produced "Queer as Folk," continues to be an amazing TV show, and Brian Kinney said, "without apolgies and no regrets.
There are also a ton of bonuses, more than three Hours of bonus sharesGoodies, there are wheels Wrap Party, commercials, trailers and interviews behind the scenes and so on.

Praxis Review

PRAXIS peels away the layers of narrative even as Brian (Tom Macy), the film’s axis, struggles to create his true self. Brian, a writer on the verge of a breakdown, is aided by Joe (Andrew Roth) and an elusive woman (Regina Aquino) as he sifts through the fragments of his persona to discover his true core. Fighting against fear and the indifference of society, his quest reflects the classical myths of Proteus and the human search for meaning in the universe.

"Practice"

Peeling away layers

Let Amos

Alec Pacheco debut "practice" (Ariztical) is a very difficult film to classify. And "anything but a typical movie. It is full of such connections and thousands of images that the viewer can reach its own conclusions. It is a story told and visually dialogue is useless.
A young writer, Brian (Tom Macy) has a nervous breakdown and is forced to reconcile with whom heand where it fits. The film is to be who you want to be and where you want. Brian struggles to realize his true self will and Joe (Andrea Roth) and his wife (Regina Aquino), which is very hard to help. The path to the heart of Brian is, he must remove all the layers of his character and you must fight against fear and a struggle, the society is indifferent.
If you are with the myth of Proteus then this film is very important for you, butIt is not necessary that you have this knowledge. One can not avoid the issues of existentialism, sexual identity and spirituality. This film is intended more in touch with the words of the true self by Brian and look with which they can do as a guide for action. The quality is amazing, and what we get is one of those films that makes us believe, and that makes this film even an important role.

Markova Review

Tagalog with English subtitles. Walter Dempsey Jr. a gay man in his twilight years, grew up in the war-torn Philippines during WWII, a time of great unrest and injustice. Watching a harrowing film on Filipino “comfort women,” women forced into prostitution to satiate Japanese soldiers stirs deep memories in Walter, aka Markova, of his own days as a comfort gay . While talking to a reporter Markova flashes back to those hard years; from his short-lived freedom following the death of his homophobic, abusive brother to his capture, escape and revenge on Japanese soldiers for their carnal brutality, followed by the American Liberation and the start of a lifetime of healing. His intensely personal story traces the scars imprinted on a country struggling to come to terms with its past and a man struggling to survive in a society that refuses to accept him for who he is.

Markova: Comfort Gay is a finely wrought film on a true story based Walter Dempster, Jr. served as the gay equivalent to "comfort women for the Japanese during the occupation of the Philippines during the Second World War. Clodualdo Written by Del Mundo, Jr. and directed with great skill and affection by Gil Portes this biography begins with the main character Walterina Markova (played with grace and precision Dolphy – Dolphy Quizon as known) lives in a retirement home for gayMen in Manila. And "old but still elegant. A TV program about the Japanese presence in Manila in World War II drew the attention Walterina if the use and abuse of comfort women (women, which is traded as a prostitute for survival) is shown. The strike his memory of his hidden secret that he served in the same capacity – such as cross-dressing "comfort gay" for Japanese soldiers. She decided she tells her story will help to heal old wounds and start a conversation with a TV journalist , aInterview, he returns to his childhood in this story. Skillfully weaves Director of Doors childhood (played here by Walter Jeffrey Quizon) with this and finally focuses on Walterina (now played by Eric Quizon), as a member of the cross dress "a group of five friends, who developed the early Japanese officials appear parties. If Walterina his story tells the interviewer, most of his friends are gone. Interwoven in various scenes, since it is older people Walterina by side with young, to remember the shapes, the following story mesmerizing.

The cast is excellent: the interest that the administrator has two Dolphy Quizon son of the actor chosen to play the younger versions, and EricJeffrey! The camera is a trailer, lighting and musical score to improve, what could be a depressing film, but a tenderness that few do, "said Philippine history. Recommended levels – as history, gender studies, and as a moment of empathy for the truth that is very touching. Englsh In Tagalog, with subtitles.

Raising Heroes

Raising Heroes Review

Director Doug Langway turns the action genre on its heels with the independent hit Raising Heroes- the world’s first gay action movie! Josh and Paul are a happy, successful gay couple just three days away from the most important event of their lives- adopting a son. Everything goes smoothly until Josh is witness to a brutal murder and quickly becomes the next target on the mob’s hit list, hurling both men into a world of deadly deciept, double crosses and vicious violence. With everyone around them in danger, and the final court hearing only days away, Josh and Paul must fight their way to safety if their dreams of having a family are to come true- culminating in an explosive, bullet riddled showdown that pushes their relationship, and lives, to the limit. Raw, low-budget, and featuring stylized gunplay in the John Woo vein, RAISING HEROES turns all action movie cliches upside down, and in the true independent spirit, both reinvents and reveres its Hollywood inspiration.

It is impossible to describe how beautiful and gay this film is in the space provided,so I will make this short. Rasin Heroes is a beautiful gay masterpeice. Everything from the gay relationship between our heros and the suspencful ending is absolutely incredible. Gayness at its best. I just pray this masterpiece comes out on DVD real soon.

How It Feels to Have a Gay or Lesbian Parent: A Book by Kids for Kids of All Ages

How It Feels to Have a Gay or Lesbian Parent: A Book by Kids for Kids of All Ages Review

Sometimes I fantasize about having a magic wand. How awesome it would be to wave it and completely eliminate prejudice, hate, and ignorance. Just imagine what it would be like to live in a world like that.

How It Feels to Have a Gay or Lesbian Parent: A Book by Kids for Kids of All Ages gives voice to the thoughts, feelings, and experiences of children, adolescents, and young adults who have a gay or lesbian parent. In their own words, they talk openly and candidly about how and when they learned of their parent’s sexual orientation and the effect it had on them—and their families. Their stories echo themes of prejudice and harassment, conflict and confusion, adaptation and adjustment, and hope for tolerance and a family that can exist in harmony.

“Because it’s an issue for other people, it becomes an issue for me. I’m angry about the way it works against me.”

The stories told in How It Feels to Have a Gay or Lesbian Parent not only reflect the day-to-day struggle of children with a GLBT parent, they also reveal the pain inherent in high-conflict divorce and child custody cases. Children of gay/lesbian parents ranging in age from seven to 31 recall the confusion and grief created when the disclosure of their parent’s true sexual orientation ended a marriage and divided a family. The “straight” parent’s resentment can lead to angry remarks that—intentionally or unintentionally—disparage the gay/lesbian parent and threaten the natural love and affection the child feels for both.

“I guess the hardest part about having a gay dad is that no matter how okay you are with it, there’s always going to be someone who will dislike you because of it.”

The one-on-one interviews presented in How It Feels to Have a Gay or Lesbian Parent document first-hand the effects of homophobia on family life. Children struggle with the choice between living in a closet, shamed by peers and family members, or dealing with discrimination as a parent’s sexual orientation is used against them. Taken together, these stories make a statement for acceptance, understanding, and tolerance as children do their best to make the transition from a traditional family to a nontraditional lifestyle.

“My mom is a normal person just like everyone else. The only thing that’s different about her is that she’s gay and if you can’t deal with it, you’re just going to have to live with it.”

How It Feels to Have a Gay or Lesbian Parent: A Book by Kids for Kids of All Ages offers comfort and support to children from those who share their journey. The book is a valuable aid for practitioners working with children of GLBT parents and an educational tool for GLBT adults considering children.

I loved this book. I discovered that there is something so new, in recent years so far is something that people talk about it. We have done so far on diversity, acceptance and sharing our personal stories, a book like this is a breath of fresh air. I am pleased that talks about things from the perspective of a child, and not try to be too clinical and matter-of-fact. My children loved the book (they are young …. and I am a gay father) and put all the challenges, blessings andDifficulties in perspective for them. We all go a different way, and it is nice to see what others (and their children lived.
